Israel & Palestine

The history of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is vast, complex, and spans a significant portion of the globe. The area known as Palestine was once part of Trans Jordan, a British colony that, when it collapsed, left Palestine as a protectorate region of the British Empire. During this time the Zionists, part of a movement to established a Jewish state, began buying plots of land and developing settlements in Palestine. The Zionist movement focused around the now Tel Aviv area and as it expanded was given recognition by western governments when the British protectorate ran out in '46. Immediately following the end of the British mandate, all neighboring Arab states except Lebanon invaded, looking to prevent Israel's establishment and end Israeli expansion. Israel won the war, effectively capturing territory twice their original size. Since, this conflict has always been about Israeli expansion into Palestinian territories, Arab nations refusal to accept the status of Israel as a state, and disproportionate support for Israel the western world.
